Кажуть, що у давні-давні часи на місці Карпат розливалось велике, неосяжне море. Високі полонини, на яких зараз пасуть овець, були морським дном і десь там над ними плавали загадкові морські жителі. Риби то спускалися до самого дна, чіпляючи животами вершини теперішніх гір, то підіймалися до самого верху. З тих незапам’ятних часів збереглися ще згадки про тих риб, чиї спинки та плавники розцвітали пишними квітами та орнаментами — наші керамічні рибки їх далекі нащадки.

• It is said that in ancient times a large, immeasurable sea was over the Carpathian Mountains. The high meadows on which the sheep graze now were the bottom of the sea, and somewhere above them floated mysterious marine inhabitants. The fish sometimes went down to the very bottom, clinging to the tops of the current mountains with their stomachs, and then they climbed to the very top. From those immemorial times, there are still memories of those fish whose backs and fins bloomed with lush flowers and ornaments – our ceramic fish are their distant descendants.
