The Trots Family Ceramics is a pottery studio, ruled by Igor, Khrystyna and Maria-Tereza, where we have been making cozy and exclusive ceramic pieces since 1997.

We have been working in the sgraffito technique for more than 20 years (this year we will celebrate the 22nd anniversary), and with every passing year we do not get bored but feel even more involved in this art. Sometimes we shift away from traditional Hutsul ceramics and practice new shapes and patterns – the history of sgraffito inspires experimentation. Moreover, the history of sgraffito gives us confidence that our products will pass through generations.

Meanwhile, this very technique taught us many things. It takes at least one month to make one item – it is neither allowed nor possible to hurry. We have learned to love this process, immerse ourselves in it, and our understanding and philosophy of slow living appeared from this steady pace. Ceramics has given us a clear sense of our own aesthetics and style, taught us to be patient and find beauty at every stage of work. Ceramics has encouraged us to be brave and believe in ourselves – that is why we are not afraid of trying something large-scale, new and crazy.

In virtue of professional interest, we tried different techniques and styles, kept a tender passion for terracotta ceramics but always returned to sgraffito. This technique is difficult, whimsical, full of nuances, expensive, but we will not change it for anything else. Thus, when we are asked why we do what we do, we can give the only answer: we simply cannot act differently.
